playground Adopts Authlete to Implement OpenID Connect in Entertainment DX Cloud
We are pleased to announce that playground Co., Ltd. (playground) has chosen Authlete to implement OpenID Connect (OIDC) in the authentication and authorization infrastructure of its entertainment DX cloud platform, MOALA.
With its mission of “dream-giving job to a dream job,” playground is leading the digital transformation (DX) and Web3 transformation of the sports and entertainment industry. MOALA boasts the top-class share in Japan in the field of electronic tickets and has been introduced for numerous prominent events.
MOALA is an industry-specific business management cloud solution for comprehensively managing sports and entertainment operations, including electronic tickets, live streaming, and e-commerce site construction. The platform is designed to enhance business efficiency and sales by cloudifying any and all tasks related to sports and entertainment operations, from content sales to event operation and fan management.

With MOALA, we decided to adopt OIDC, a secure open standard, in building an authentication and authorization infrastructure that spans a variety of services, including electronic tickets, smartphone apps, and ticket resale.
While we also considered IDaaS (Identity as a Service) and OSS (open source software) in building the infrastructure, we selected Authlete because of its high level of compliance with the OIDC specifications.
Furthermore, since Authlete is a component-based service that specializes in OIDC processing, it offers a high degree of freedom in the user authentication flow. In implementing the OIDC functionality, we realized that Authlete is the best choice to achieve the UX we were aiming for—one that can improve the sports and entertainment experience of fans.
